About Newcastle GAA club Wicklow

OUR BACKGROUND

Newcastle GAA club has come along way since its establishment in1886.

While GAA clubs are the heart of communities it takes people with passion and commitment to sustain continuous growth and development.

That passion and commitment was pumped into Newcastle GAA club not only by the community as a whole but by two men named John Healy and Eddie Farrell who started off as players and were the driving force in the continued success of the club. The duo's devotion and hard work in front of and behind the scenes was the foundation in which the club continues to grow and develop. Their legacy will live on with the grounds now aptly named Healy-Farrell park.

The senior team has seen various levels of success over the years going from Junior C to intermediate and winning numerous leagues and competing in several championships, but the real success is the lifelong friendships built along the way and many players continued involvement in different aspects of the club.

Juvenile teams came and went over the years but it was in 2012 with the dedication of Colm Yeoman and Damien Nivelles who committed themselves to a team of 4 year old's who mirrored the passion of their coaches and went on together to win The U13 Championship in 2019.

That championship was watched in awe by the newly established young Newcastle Juvenile Academy players. An academy that to date continues to grow and flourish with teams from U6 right up to U15 and for the first time in the clubs history the formation of two juvenile girls teams.
